Parisian trio, The Teenagers, aren't teenagers and they may live in London, but they see the world through teen-tinted glasses. These sardonic sleazoids massage lo-fi synth pop with punk basslines and cheeky lyrics.
Lead singer Quentin Delafon, guitarist / synth man Dorian Dumont and bassist Michael Szpiner remind us what it's like to be young. Between the three of them they shared a broad breadth of interests, including Slayer, M83, Weezer, Jaques Le Cont, Nirvana, Dillinger Escape Plan, Madonna and Beverley Hills 90210.
They have traveled with Justice and Crystal Castles and remixed New Pony Club, Air and Simian Mobile Disco.Their debut album, Reality Check, excels at cleverly crafted synth-pop with candid lyrics about everything you and your friends say - but never actually get to hear on a record! Here you will find songs about sex with tourists (Homecoming), the cynical manipulation of fans by bands (Feeling Better), teen infatuation with movie stars (Starlett Johansson), Aaron Spelling's deep impact on the youthful psyche (Wheel Of Fortune), and failed romance between fashion industry professionals (Sunset Beach).
There are anthems, there are the kinda songs you want playing as the credits roll on your favorite film, there are coldly removed vocals and hooks that will have you buying every t-shirt on the merch desk. This is an album with all the tawdry glamour and ennui of a magazine at the supermarket checkout.
