On the prolific tastemaker label DEAD OCEANS (Dirty Projectors, Citay, Evangelicals, Bishop Allen) comes the new release from wonderful 22 year old songwriter Casey Dienel.
Casey Dienel spent the bulk of her young life living in Scituate, Massachusetts. She took her first piano lessons at age 4, and at age 14 began writing her own pop songs, going on to study at the New England Conservatory Of Music after High School.
The songs on ‘Phylactery Factory’ are fantastically wordy, chirpy, and jazzed-out, with shades of contemporary performers such Jolie Holland, M.Ward and Joanna Newsom and echoes of names past such as Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell, Alice Coltrane.
“Vessels” is as fine a song as you will hear this year, a thing of ukulele and dusky horns, Casey in a duet with her friend Laura Gibson.
