The Hungry Saw
Beggars Banquet
INDIE
The Nottingham based critically acclaimed band TINDERSTICKS have at long last regrouped for their 10th studio album.
‘The Hungry Saw’ is the first album of new material since 2003’s ‘Waiting For The Moon’. The new masterpiece is sure to thrill anyone with a love for the likes of NICK CAVE, LEONARD COHEN and LEE HAZELWOOD.
TINDERSTICKS formed in 1991. The major label deal came, the major label deal went. In 2006 Tindersticks were asked to play a ‘Don’t Look Back’ show in London. It honoured their hugely original and influential early work, but also brought on a sense of closure, of a circle being complete. And it also inspired the band to push forward.
‘The Hungry Saw’ is the result of that new found passion. The album was recorded in a studio in deepest France - an ambient space they had craved for a long time. The grand melancholy and gentle humour are still abundantly present, but there’s a renewed energy, an appetite for spontaneity.
The album finds the band newly stripped-down to a trio, consisting of the three original members: vocalist Stuart Staples, guitarist Neil Fraser and keyboard player David Boulter. They are assisted by drummer Thomas Belhom, bassist Dan McKinna, and there are glorious contributions from strings arranger Lucy Wilkins (who has played with BETH ORTON, BRYAN FERRY, BLOC PARTY and UNKLE) and brass man, Terry Edwards.
‘The Hungry Saw’ is destined to become a modern classic.
