Supreme Balloon
Matador
INDIE
MATMOS may be perceived as electronic music’s intellectual faction - always choosing to record each of their albums by a predetermined set of rules and governing concepts.
With ‘Supreme Balloon’, the duo (Martin Schmidt and Drew Daniel) announce “No microphones were used on this album” and create every sound with their amazing array of synthesizers. The result is an album that covers a remarkable range of sonic terrain, from 60s and 70s electronic pop through to smouldering analogue psychedelia and droning mantras.
‘Supreme Balloon’ features contributions from Keith Fullerton Whitman and Jay Lesser (who have both worked with the duo before) and SUN RA ARKESTRA’S Marshall Allen.
The end result is already drawing comparisons to TERRY RILEY, JEAN-JACQUES PERREY, DICK HYMAN, VANGELIS and TANGERINE DREAM... with hints of library music, krautrock and droning eastern melodies.
Matmos have previously collaborated and toured extensively with BJORK.
