JACKSON CONTI is the new project from hip hop living legend MADLIB (who has recorded for STONES THROW, BLUE NOTE, ANTIDOTE amongst others as JAYLIB, QUASIMOTO, YESTERDAYS NEW QUINTET, LOOTPACK and more) collaborating with IVAN "MAMÃO" CONTI drummer with Brazilian jazz / funk outfit AZYMUTH (possibly the country's greatest trio, whose career started in the ‘60s and exists until this day).
Listeners do not need to be familiar with the artists involved on this album to love it. It is arguably the best Brazilian album released this year.
This unexpected but sublime teaming is the fulfillment of Madlib's deep love of Brazilian music and features live versions of classic songs from the likes of LUIZ ECA, CHICO BUARQUE, JOAO DONATO, BADEN POWELL, VINICIUS DE MORAES, MARCOS VALLE, DOM UM ROMAO, AIRTO, even GEORGE DUKE gets a look in. And of course AZYMUTH.
