The latest in TIRK RECORDS’ series of compilations curated by some of the finest artists and DJs in contemporary music, this time brought to you by Mercury nominees THE BEES.
This compilation is to accompany the release of The Bees’ third artist album ‘Octopus’. Their first two albums have total sales in excess of 150,000 worldwide & the debut, ‘Sunshine Hit Me’, was shortlisted for the 2002 MERCURY PRIZE.
This compilation provides a blueprint of The Bees’ unique sound, combining disparate influences. From the swampy blues of MUDDY WATERS to DONOVAN’s psychedelia to reggae and leftfield hip-hop courtesy of DILLINGER and QUASIMOTO respectively, topped off with a contribution from soul maestro STEVIE WONDER. It also included is an exclusive alternate version of “Left Foot Step Down” from The Bees’ third album, ‘Octopus’.
Other tracks are from DE LA SOUL, MATUMBI (DENNIS BOVELL), BECK and BEES contemporaries DUNGEN, along with elements of afro-beat, latin and more.
