Along with DELIA DERBYSHIRE & DAVID CAIN, JOHN BAKER is one third of the holy trinity of composers at the BBC RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP in ‘60s & ‘70s. The three of them are some of the most important pioneers in early electronic music. This groundbreaking release is the first major retrospective of any BBC Radiophonic composer.
Coincidentally it is 50 years since the legendary Workshop was started. The 49 tracks on Vol. 1 of this set represent the major body of important work he produced there, and most tracks until now have remained unissued. Together these tracks give an incredible, diverse and magical insight into the man and his methods of working. We have jingles, themes, stings, soundtracks and soundscapes from a wide variety of BBC TV, radio and public information broadcasts as well as exceptionally rare cues from Radiophonic non-broadcast commissions.
