Crammed full of enthusiasm and energy, The Zuton’s new album ‘You Can Do Anything’ is teeming with life and a peculiarly unpredictable lyrical bent. The album was produced and recorded in LA by George Drakoulias (Johnny Cash, The Black Crowes), who captured the band at their pulsequickening, rambunctious best.
The Zutons never were like other bands. Emerging at the same time as Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs back in 2004, their boisterous, hookladen music was compulsively odder than that of their peers.
They sang about zombies and dancehalls, and took inspiration not just from their city’s favourite sons but also from John Barry, Talking Heads, and Ennio Morricone.
Their infectious songs made an instant connection with the UK public, and their first album ‘Who Killed The Zutons?’ sold over 600,000 units in the UK alone as well as bagging a Nationwide Mercury Prize nomination. It hit #3 in the UK charts, hitting double platinum status. The 2006 follow up ‘Tired Of Hanging Around’ peaked at #2 – as well as spawning the legendary single “Valerie” which would later be reworked into a mega-hit by superstars Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson!
