Boundary Sounds is something of a phenomenon. From its humble beginnings in a bedroom in Sydney’s inner west a little over a year ago, Boundary Sounds has been built into a promotion powerhouse by a string of successful club nights flag-shipped by the unprecedented success of weekly Sydney indie night Purple Sneakers, and closely followed by new weekly project Bad Kids Recreation Club.
Boundary Sounds was born in the indie clubs of London and founded by self-starting and self confessed “pusher of music” Martin Novosel (aka PhDJ) due to a combination of brute ambition and a lack of having other employment options (he was fired from a string of jobs). The company adopts an atypical business model which sees the (very financially intensive) process of releasing records funded primarily by the income generated from weekly clubs and special events.
The record label component of Boundary Sounds has been in actual activity no longer than 4 months. It is proudly distributed by Inertia and has had the remarkable success of having three of the four acts added to rotation on national youth broadcaster Triple J. Of Sparkadia, The Mares, Bright Yellow and Wons Phreely only the latter has not actually been officially added to Triple J rotation, yet even so has received nationwide airplay with his latest single “Temper Temper”.
