    Although hailing from two different sides of the globe, Scotland’s Frightened Rabbit and Brooklyn’s The National have a lot in common. Both specialise in dense metaphor and literate pop. Both have a fascination with the dark and morose. It shouldn’t be surprising, then, that Frightened Rabbit’s Scott Hutchinson performed a unique rendition of The National’s classic, “Fake Empire”, while on stage in San Francisco recently.     Renowned author, Bret Easton Ellis has praised Brooklyn indie rockers The National, declaring their latest album a personal favourite. Ahead of his book tour of Australia this August, the iconic and often-controversial writer mused on Twitter that “‘High Violet’ by The National is the best record I’ve heard in a year. It’s the only thing I’ve listened to on the “Imperial Bedrooms” tour.”
